Some people think that the family is the most important influence on young adults. Other people think that friends are the most important influence on young adults. Which do you prefer?

             

              Nowadays, all people are affected by others. It is a society where you cannot avoid it. They can be affected either in positive or negative ways. In my opinion, even though friends make an impression on young adults, the family is the most important influence on young adults because the family is the one which young adults stay and learn for the longest time of their entire lifetime. Friends do not have the same influence like what family has. In addition, the family has strong emotional relationship than that of friends. Therefore, I think that the family is the most important influence on young adults. Here are some examples why I prefer this state.

The first reason is that young adults spend longer time with their parents than their friends. Even if they go to school and hang out with their friends, they would eventually spend most of their time with their parents at home. Thus, they naturally follow what their parents say and do. Besides, people make their own character in their childhood. Young adults have been trained by their family ever since they were born. There is one TV show in Korea called “My Child Has Changed.” The purpose of this program is to change violent children to have gentler characteristic. I watched this program several times. When I watch this program, I noticed that the reason why the children are violent is because of their surroundings. At first, the program shows the children’s actions only, but in fact, there are behind stories. The most memorable child for me was the one who threw sand at her grandmother’s face. It was a shocking scene. When I watched the behind story, I knew that it was her parents who caused her to act in such bad manners. This shows that children are the mirrors of their parents, so parents have to lead and teach their children in a good way.

The second reason is young adults can share problems with families more than their friends because their families are more related. Family is the one which we can trust the most. Even if we really have trustworthy friends, we cannot say that they are always reliable. We cannot predict the future. There are some possibilities that they can betray you. However, in a family, the members think of the problems of one as if the problem is their own. Therefore, young adults can trust their families more. Try to think about crime (sexual harassment, etc) that people might have. To whom will they tell? Do you think the victims will tell to their friend? Well, I think not. It is because if they reveal to their friends, the friends might tell to somebody and young adults are worried about that situation. Therefore, it is natural that they will talk to their parents for help. This case shows that the trust is very important. There was one friend of mine who was fanatic of a famous singer. One day, my friend went to the singer’s concert instead of going to school and the she only told her best friend whose name is Eun-jin. However, Eun-jin spread the secret to all classmates. Because of this situation, she got in trouble and she became an outsider more than a year.

             The last reason is young adults mostly learn from their parents. All people have adolescence and that time is the most important moment in people’s lives. At that moment the parents, are the important role for them. For example, when they fought with their friends or having serious problems, their parents can help them. In addition, they have more power than friends and they already experienced their adolescence, so they can give good advice and lesson. When I was about to enter high school, I was having a serious problem with choosing a school. That situation was so embarrassing for me to tell my friends and my parents are the one who gave advice a lot. There are things that we cannot tell our problems to friends unless I did things that are not supposed to do. Thus, the parents are more helpful than friends. 

In conclusion, even though people spend more time with their friends than their family, as they get older, they are more strongly influenced by family than friends. Family is the one who spend longest time and give good advice. Family is the trust worthiest group to tell secret problems. People are influenced by their family due to spending a lot of time in their young adulthood. In brief, I prefer that the family is the most important influence on young adults.
