             Sheryl Sandberg, the chief operating officer of Facebook, made a speech about women. She wanted women to have equal opportunities to have high positions at work like men. She believes that women can get high positions, but she announced that most women do not have confidence about themselves or others do not have confidence in them, so she suggested three points. The first thing was ‘Sit at the table.’ It means that the women need to catch opportunities. For example, if there is a meeting in the office, they should tell their ideas instead of saying nothing. Then they can show their abilities. The other thing was ‘Be a real partner.’ It represents that women need to share the housework with their partners. For instance, if a child is sick, why does the mother need to be absent all the time? Husband and wife need to share, give chances and respect each other. The last thing was ‘Do not leave before you leave.’ Most women do not try hard to get a career because they think that in the future they have to quit their jobs anyway because of children or other things. However, even if they get married, they can still keep their jobs. They just need to know how to balance the different kinds of work with their partner.

             For me, the most effective example was when she talked about going to the bathroom when she had a meeting in a company. When she asked for the bathroom, an owner did not know where the girl’s bathroom was. How come the owner could not know the direction of the girl’s bathroom? It shows the favoritism between women and men because maybe he cannot remember things about women, or women never go there to give a speech, only men are chosen.

             Through this speech, I realized that men and women need to be treated equally. When she used the example of the successful woman whose story was studied by students, I realized that people think better of men even though their life story is the same. In my opinion, if people think in that way, women need to be more confident about themselves. However, even women think that men are better than them when it comes to jobs. The speech made me think that this attitude needs to change. As you can experience, you can notice that most companies’ supervisors are men and it affected me to challenge myself. My dream is to become a hotel manger, but usually, hotel managers are men and I will try to prove people we can work as same as men.

Essay

Some people think that the family is the most important influence on young adults. Other people think that friends are the most important influence on young adults. Which do you prefer?

             

              Nowadays, all people are affected by others. It is a society where you cannot avoid it. They can be affected either in positive or negative ways. In my opinion, even though friends make an impression on young adults, the family is the most important influence on young adults because the family is the one which young adults stay and learn for the longest time of their entire lifetime. Friends do not have the same influence like what family has. In addition, the family has strong emotional relationship than that of friends. Therefore, I think that the family is the most important influence on young adults. Here are some examples why I prefer this state.

The first reason is that young adults spend longer time with their parents than their friends. Even if they go to school and hang out with their friends, they would eventually spend most of their time with their parents at home. Thus, they naturally follow what their parents say and do. Besides, people make their own character in their childhood. Young adults have been trained by their family ever since they were born. There is one TV show in Korea called “My Child Has Changed.” The purpose of this program is to change violent children to have gentler characteristic. I watched this program several times. When I watch this program, I noticed that the reason why the children are violent is because of their surroundings. At first, the program shows the children’s actions only, but in fact, there are behind stories. The most memorable child for me was the one who threw sand at her grandmother’s face. It was a shocking scene. When I watched the behind story, I knew that it was her parents who caused her to act in such bad manners. This shows that children are the mirrors of their parents, so parents have to lead and teach their children in a good way.

The second reason is young adults can share problems with families more than their friends because their families are more related. Family is the one which we can trust the most. Even if we really have trustworthy friends, we cannot say that they are always reliable. We cannot predict the future. There are some possibilities that they can betray you. However, in a family, the members think of the problems of one as if the problem is their own. Therefore, young adults can trust their families more. Try to think about crime (sexual harassment, etc) that people might have. To whom will they tell? Do you think the victims will tell to their friend? Well, I think not. It is because if they reveal to their friends, the friends might tell to somebody and young adults are worried about that situation. Therefore, it is natural that they will talk to their parents for help. This case shows that the trust is very important. There was one friend of mine who was fanatic of a famous singer. One day, my friend went to the singer’s concert instead of going to school and the she only told her best friend whose name is Eun-jin. However, Eun-jin spread the secret to all classmates. Because of this situation, she got in trouble and she became an outsider more than a year.

             The last reason is young adults mostly learn from their parents. All people have adolescence and that time is the most important moment in people’s lives. At that moment the parents, are the important role for them. For example, when they fought with their friends or having serious problems, their parents can help them. In addition, they have more power than friends and they already experienced their adolescence, so they can give good advice and lesson. When I was about to enter high school, I was having a serious problem with choosing a school. That situation was so embarrassing for me to tell my friends and my parents are the one who gave advice a lot. There are things that we cannot tell our problems to friends unless I did things that are not supposed to do. Thus, the parents are more helpful than friends. 

In conclusion, even though people spend more time with their friends than their family, as they get older, they are more strongly influenced by family than friends. Family is the one who spend longest time and give good advice. Family is the trust worthiest group to tell secret problems. People are influenced by their family due to spending a lot of time in their young adulthood. In brief, I prefer that the family is the most important influence on young adults.

Essay

Nowadays, jobs are considered as the most important thing in people’s lives. If you have a blind date, first question will be “what is your job? “ If your job is not in a good position, there are more possibilities to be rejected by your partner unless you are not beautiful or handsome it shows that the importance of having a job increases rapidly. Therefore, people want to be successful in the future. There are some people who really exert effort to be successful. However, there are also other people who became successful without exerting effort. Thus, I disagree with this state. There are some examples why I disagree with this state.

The first reason is people can be successful by relationship with their friends. For example, when one girl wants to enter ‘Hilton Hotel’ which is one of the top hotels in the world, but her resume could not satisfy the interviewers in that hotel. Fortunately, because of her friend who is a hotel manager in ‘Hilton Hotel’ recommended her, she was able to be chosen by the interviewers.

The other reason is because of money. I do not want to believe but I need to admit that people money can control people’s attitude. Therefore, if you want to be successful, use money and you can do everything. Rich people have an easier chance to become successful than other poor people. Think about Paris Hilton. I assure you that there are more poor people who have a good potential with managing people than Pairs Hilton. In addition, they might put more efforts than her. Most of them cannot be like her because of her surroundings. How can she manage Hilton Hotel? It is unfair but it is a society. She was just lucky to be born to a rich family. Even if she did not get high scores in her exams, she had a chance to study in England. Finally she entered a good university and now she is preparing to study in England again. I realized that money can control our lives.

The last thing is people can be successful because of their talents or abilities. Even if people do not try their best, there are people who have abilities when they were born. Most people do not see their effort. They consider the results. Although people work hard, eventually people who have talents will be successful.

These three things were included in luck. It tells that luck follows your success all time. There are lots of people who are really passionate in their work. Do you think all of them will be successful? Of course not. However, in a person’s entire life, each person has a chance at least once. They need to catch that moment. In brief, luck follows people’s success and they always need to be prepared to catch the lucky opportunity.

When Penelope ran out of her house and wanted to have the freedom, that part was one of my favorite parts for me. Because of her parents’ overprotection, she could not do anything. Even though, she had the complex of her face I was impressed when she determined to go out of the world. If I were her I would not go out and I might commit suicide. I want to praise about her courage.

When she refused to have her wedding, that scene was the other favorite part for me. At that moment, I was glad to hear about her opinion. It s because she usually had no choice about her opinion and she always had to follow what her parents says. Despite of her mothers’ insistence, she could express her thoughts in front of many people. Through these situations, I could notice her personality. That is why these two parts were my favorite parts.

When I watched this movie, I was able to predict that this story will be the happy ending because the story was too obvious. Even though the story was too obvious, it was not boring because it showed our society’s problems through this movie. In my opinion, this movie wants to tell its viewers “do not judge people by their appearance and see their personalities” and “always be confident with your-self.” It is really important thing to see people’s personalities because the personality can change your life. Even if you are a good-looking person eventually, you will have wrinkles and be a grandmother or grandfather. Appearance does not last for a long time. Nowadays, people are depending on their beauty, so some of them spend lots of money to become beautiful or handsome such as having a cosmetic surgery, buying cosmetic products and so on. In my opinion, the producers made this film to criticize our society and it really affected my mind.

              Honestly, I did not change a lot by watching this movie, but I realized my selfishness. I used to judge people’s faces all the time but I will try to change about doing this bad thing. I really want to apologize to people who I criticized about their faces.

I was expecting that Steve Jobs who was the president of Apple Company would die but when it came true, I was kind of shocked. In addition, the new product has not come out yet, but he passed away already. Jobs spent fifty-six years of his life which I think is very short but it was so dramatic, adventurous and fruitful. He contributed a lot of innovations.

When I watched the video “Steve Jobs speech in 2005 at Standford University” in our English class,Actually, I was not really interested about his life and I did not want to watch the video and I just thought that ' Of course he is rich so that is why he can do a good speech and can have a good opportunity.' I have never thought that he had a hard time with his life. However, when he started to do his speech I was surprised because it made me concentrate on that video.  He talked about his life and hardships.  He was born in 1955 and he was actually adopted by other parents. When he was in college he figured out that his parents spent all money for him so he decided to quit school.  After that, he tried to make a company with other people but it was not successful but he did not give up and he just thought that it was a challenge for him so he tried harder and harder. In my opinion, the reason why he was successful is because he was optimistic. I felt ashamed of myself and I thought if all of us think like him, I think most of us can be successful in our lives.

             According to his speech, he mentioned that “Again, you can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something — your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life.”

         “Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”  These two parts were the most impressive parts when I heard his speech. I think they are the lesson for people. When I heard his speech I was just impressed and I could not say anything.

        After watching this video, I realized that I am the one making my life not other people.I must not be affected by negative things around me.I must always think of positive results in everything I do. Today, I tried to think about myself if i am spending my time wisely. When he mentioned, " Do not waste your life " that time was the most memorable for me. However, I do not agree all things about his life. It is because he was too EXTREMELY positive. When he got fired from Apple Company, he said that that time was the best moment in his life. I am not too positive as him. I just want to be realistic but I want to emulate his enthusiasm.

My Project

I had the project which was making a brochure about our school's services. I chose the canteen because in my opinion, it is the most popular place in our school. Most students go there at recess time and have some break time!

Advantages & Disadvantages of Blogging

What is a blog? It is an online webblog. Nowadays, most of the people communicate through the internet. There are many ways to communicate with people and blogging is one of the common ways and the video which I watched in the youtube was discussed about a blog. It was mentioned that a blog is like a piece of code on the internet. You can write about TV shows, music, photography, and politics. Therefore if you write something, people in the world can share any lots of information, even bad news. In addition, there are political insights too.

There are advantages and disadvantages of blogs. First, it helps us to start conversations. For example, news becomes conversations because people have questions or comments about those kinds of situations. These small things become good conversations. The second thing is we can have journalism. It is like a report what you think about and they can do things that the media cannot do. Thus, we can express our feelings through the internet and it gives us democracy back. The other thing is it connects people’s insights and opinions by reading blogs, so sometimes it gives power to people. The fourth thing is blogs give a real image of what is really happening such as Iraq war. In this video, a man took pictures of his injury after the war. It was really horrible. I realized that it is a real world. I think showing reality of world is a kind of advantages. However, the most impressive thing about blog for me is about saving lives. Blogs can cause lots of bad things, but it also saves one’s life. According to the video, there was a girl who was about to commit suicide. However her friends found out that in the blog and defend her from killing herself. At that moment, the girl was depressed about her life and she does not have any motivation with living, but when she did not commit suicide, she knew what to do with her life. In my opinion, this is the most powerful thing about blogging.

In contrast, there are also disadvantages of blogs. First, it is possible that you will pay no attention to your real friends and you will be closer with other friends who met you in the internet. We know and some are nice, but if you met strange people, you can be hurt by someone. I know the one story about a man who died because of making friends through the internet. One day, he decided to meet them and when he went to the appointment place, he was killed by them. They were kind of tickers. Therefore, it is really dangerous to make through the internet because we do know their faces and they do not know our faces. The next thing is we cannot know if things that are written in blogs are true or not. In this video, there was a girl who is a lesbian. She posted about her life and people criticized her a lot. Finally, she erased her blog. However, the most surprise thing was it was a made-up story. One blog owner made a story and she was just a character. The thing that I learned through this video was even if, there is a proof, we always need to suspect and be careful. The last thing is about personal thing. When you write something in blogs, it means you are sharing about yourself, so every time when you write something you need to be careful.

In my opinion, it is natural to have advantages and disadvantages and even if there are disadvantages, I think blogging is really necessary. If you want to post something, just make sure that you have to distinguish what to write or not because sometimes it causes a big fight.  

Real Friendship

What do you think about a real friendship? Friendship is really important thing between you and your friends. Although, you do not have friendship, you can make friends which are called fair-weather friend. Fair-weather friends are friends who are with you when they are needed. It means that they are using friends. Sometimes, I think about friendship if it will go forever or not and I realized that if you and your friends really trust each other, I think it is possible to go forever. However, if you are really close to someone but you cannot trust him or her, that is not consider as a real friend. It is because someday they can betray each other. I think everyone knows how difficult to make real friends, even only one. If you have more than 5 real friends, I think you are rich enough already.

           In my opinion, the most important thing to have real friendship is to trust and understand each other. In addition, you need to know how to cover your friend’s complex. For me, friendship equals to trusting and understanding. I have never had bad experiences about my friends because I have more than 3 real friends. I am always thankful to them. Though, I had extremely good friends, I could feel that trusting and understanding are needed and I learned it from my friend who suffered a lot because of some mean friends. When I met my friend at first, she was not really an open-minded person because of her past. She could not tell any stories because when she used to tell secrets to her friends they used to tell everybody. Thus, she was scared to tell secrets. When I encounter her, I felt pity on her. Finally, she left Korea.  Even if you think she or he is my closest friend, you have to think of some terrible situations like this situation. You need to know how to take care of yourself too and if you want to have a real friend, make sure that you observe a lot. Recently, I asked someone to be my real friend. When I asked this simple question, it took me more than a week to ask because I was worried that if that someone would refuse it. However luckily, we became good friends. I know it will take much time to be more friendly but I really trust her so that is why I could suggest to be my real friend. I think this blog help me to express my feelings and I hope she will read this article. If we become closer, if my friend is sad, I want be a big help for her and if my friend is having some problems, I would like to help her to solve them or I will give advice to her.

           Are you willing to sacrifice for your friends, the attention of others, your ambitions or your wants for anyone? If not, no one will consider you as a real friend. At last I assure you that having a real friend will change one’s life. I think I am willing to sacrifice for my friends.

F.R.I.E.N.D.S.H.I.P

 

Friendship means in a general way to the state of being friends, or the feelings that friends have for each other. It is related to friends. Just knowing each other is not friendship but if you really like someone as a faith friend, it is a time when you can make friendship. Both of you need to trust each other. You can think friendship is not really a big deal in your life, but in my opinion it is a serious thing because it can change your life. I think I realized that when I was in grade 9 because my friends were very effective to me and I could experience lots of good things from them. I think if you want to know more about friendship, I think the best thing is to experience more things by making friends. For instance, you can experience by betrayal or believing. You will have more opportunities to meet different kinds of friends. For example, some friends can be extroverted, but some are can be introverted so that you can make more knowledge about friends. However sometimes, you can have a hard time to make real friends but if you be honest to them, at last they will believe you. Therefore, just be honest to yourself and to your friends.

I know the story about my friend and she had a hard time with her friend. When she was in grade 7, she was a fan of famous singer in South Korea. When there was a concert, she went there and she did not come to school. She has a friend who was really close to her at that time and she told that she went to that famous singer’s concert. However, the next day, her friends told  everybody, even the teachers knew already, so she was in trouble for the whole year. When I heard this story, I was shocked and I realized that friends can change my life. I was sorry for her because when I was in grade 7, I did not like her because of that rumor, but now she is one of my closest friends.

In brief, having real friends is very important, but you need to be friendly to the people around you, even if they are not really close to you. Just be friends with them. I do not mean do not believe all friends. I just want to say that friends can change your life and it will be helpful for you to make real friends.

N.A.Y.O.U.N.G

I think this is the second time for me to make a blog. I just want to write about myself so that everyone can know about me. I am a bit nervous to talk about myself…… My name is Na Young Kwon. My English name is Chauntelle. My Korean age is 17 and my international age is 15 years old. My hobbies are listening to music, going out with my friends and reading books. The reasons why I love these things are, when I do these things, I feel excited and they can remove my stress. My favorite food is Sushi which is Japanese tradition food. It is made of a raw fish with rice and chili sauce. It is quite expensive. My favorite subjects are Math and Science because I am such a curious person. Thus, I always have lots of questions. Also, I like to solve problems. I do not get high scores but I am interested in Math and Science. When I learn them, I feel like I am storing knowledge into my brain.

I came to the Philippines to study and I realized that it is hard to live without my parents. At first, it was hard for me to decide to come here because I was worried that if I will have a homesick, but after thinking about my future, I decided to come to the Philippines. My dream is to become a hotel manager. When I was young I had lots of dreams such as a doctor, a producer and a scientist, but at last I found my interest from managing employees and giving services to customers. In addition, I want to work in the United States and I figured out that going to the Philippines will help me to go to the United States easily. Therefore, I think I will post many things about a hotel management.

My friends described me as an out-going, strong-willed hard-working and talkative person. I agree with that because if I want to achieve something, I really try hard and achieve it. I think those things are my advantages, but being talkative can annoy people sometimes, so I have to be careful all the time. These things are basically all about me.
